The Calit2 Center of GRAVITY (Graphics, Visualization and Imaging Technology) at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the general area of collaborative biomedical visualization in virtual environemtns. This collaborative research project is aimed at the development of new visualization algorithms and tools, enabling real-time collaboration between scientists located at spatially distributed research sites. The position provides a unique opportunity to gain experience in various aspects of advanced interdisciplinary research and access to unique virtual reality equipment. The postdoctoral researcher will closely collaborate with researchers from the Visualization and Interactive Systems Group (VIS) and the Brain Imaging Center (BIC) at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) as well as the National Center for Microscopy and Imaging Research (NCMIR) at UCSD. Particular application areas include hardware-accelerated biomedical visualization and distributed rendering.

The position requires a Ph.D. in computer science, biomedical engineering or related field, and a demonstrated ability to work with an interdisciplinary research team. We seek a self-starter who can quickly grasp fundamental elements of technical problems and provide creative solutions while working with a team of graduate students. The candidate should have strong expertise in scientific visualization algorithms and techniques, parallel computing and rendering as well as a strong working knowledge of C/C++, Unix (Linux) and OpenGL.
